RC SAN MATEO CLUB HISTORY
In September 9, 2006, members of the Rotary Club of Marikina sowed the seeds for a Rotary Club in San Mateo. The first meeting was held at the clubhouse of Greenbrier Subdivision in Patiis Road, San Mateo, Rizal, only two individuals attended.
On October 21, 2006, the group composed of mostly San Mateo professionals decided to seriously consider chartering the club in Rotary International. They proceeded to elect their charter officers and board of directors. Atty. Regino M. Garillo was elected Charter President of the Club. On January 22, 2007 the charter papers were formally submitted to the Rotary International. The maiden issue of the Ang TINIG (Tulong Isapuso Natin at Ihandog ng Ganap), the official newsletter of the club went out on February 20, 2007. On March 7, 2007 the club charter papers was accepted and approved by the Rotary International as club number 75384, belonging to District 3800 and belonging to Zone 4 of said district.
In RY 2008-2009 under the vibrant leadership of Heroic President Jopeng Catapia the club was accorded a Presidential Citation Award. The following were the projects and activities carried out book donation drive; free oral polio vaccines; jail outreach; pediatric medical mission; organized the 1st Interact Club in San Mateo; potable drinking water project; values formation seminar and anti-drug campaign project. A livelihood bio sand filter project in Sitio Ibayo was likewise started in partnership with RC Wackwack.
In RY 2009-2010, under the steady leadership of Visionary President Emil Velasco the club conducted and sustained various projects despite the onset of Typhoon Ondoy that have affected most of the club members. These projects include various public image building activity; literacy project such as book donation drive; feeding program for the Ondoy victims; relief operations to the Ondoy victims; and gift giving project to poor children in the community.
For RY 2010-2011, the confident leadership of Global President Charlie Gadapan made it possible for the club to participate in all the Zone 4 joint projects such as: Medical Mission, Tree Planting, Job Fair, New Generations Assembly, Feeding Program, Defogging Project, Drug Awareness Campaign, Conflict Resolution Counseling and the Mother and Child Breastfeeding Project.
